AfricanAdventureTravel.org is an independent, informational travel website focusing on safaris and adventure trips in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Why Sub-Saharan Africa?
Sub-Saharan Africa is the area of the continent that lies south of the Sahara desert. Broadly speaking it is all of the African continent, except Northern Africa (Maghreb and Sahara regions).
While Northern Africa has a long tradition of tourism and has been closely tied to Southwestern Asia and Europe since Antiquity, Sub-Saharan Africa forms an entity on its own – albeit a very diverse one – which has been culturally and ecologically separated from the rest of Africa since BC 3500.
That is not to say that adventure travel is not possible also in Northern Africa, but given its specific character, we choose to focus this website on the Sub-Saharan part.
